The complete GTA moving checklist
A week-by-week guide to keep your move on track — from the first booking call to unpacking the last box.
8 weeks before moving day
- Research and book a moving company — get a free quote from Jasper Moving early to lock in your preferred date, especially for weekend or month-end moves.
- Start a "moving binder" (digital or paper) for quotes, receipts, and important documents.
- Go room by room and decide what to keep, sell, donate, or toss — fewer items means a faster, cheaper move.
- If moving for work, check if your employer offers relocation assistance.
4 weeks before
- Confirm your moving date, crew size, and any special items (piano, safe, artwork) with your mover.
- Start collecting boxes and packing supplies, or ask about professional packing services.
- Begin packing items you don't use daily: off-season clothing, books, decor, spare linens.
- Research schools, healthcare providers, and services in your new neighbourhood if you're relocating across the GTA.
2 weeks before
- Submit a change-of-address with Canada Post, and update your address with your bank, employer, and subscriptions.
- Arrange to transfer or set up utilities (hydro, gas, internet) at your new address.
- Pack a "first-night" box: toiletries, chargers, medications, a change of clothes, basic kitchen items.
- Label boxes clearly by room and contents — this alone saves hours on move-in day.
Moving week
- Confirm arrival time and any building requirements with your movers (elevator bookings, parking permits, COI for condo buildings).
- Defrost and clean your fridge/freezer at least 24 hours before moving.
- Set aside valuables and important documents to transport yourself rather than on the truck.
- Charge devices and confirm your mover has your current contact number.
Moving day
- Do a final walkthrough of your old place — check closets, cabinets, and outdoor areas.
- Point out fragile or high-value items to the crew before loading begins.
- Keep your first-night box, documents, and valuables with you, not on the truck.
- Do a walkthrough at the new place as items are unloaded to confirm everything arrived.
After the move
- Unpack essentials first: bedroom, bathroom, kitchen — the rest can wait.
- Check all boxes and furniture against your inventory list.
- Register your new address for a driver's licence/health card update if you've moved provinces or municipalities.
- Leave a review — it helps other GTA movers find a company they can trust.
